The Ultimate FIRE Calculator
Financial Independence & Early Retirement Planner
Are you dreaming of leaving the rat race behind, achieving financial independence, and retiring early (FIRE)? You are not alone. However, mapping out a reliable path to early retirement requires more than just basic savings math. You need to account for real-world variables like inflation, compound interest, and your safe withdrawal rate (SWR).
Use our Ultimate FIRE Calculator below to simulate your exact journey. Unlike basic calculators, this tool uses precise geometric compound annual growth rates (CAGR) optimized for index funds and ETFs, ensuring your financial projections are mathematically sound.
1. Your FIRE Goal
2. Your Timeline
3. Your Investments

How Does This FIRE Calculator Work?
Planning for early retirement can feel overwhelming, but this tool simplifies the math into four actionable steps:
- Your FIRE Goal:Â Enter your estimated annual living expenses in retirement and your expected Safe Withdrawal Rate (usually 4%). The calculator will determine the exact nest egg you need in today’s purchasing power.
- Your Timeline:Â Input your current age and the age you wish to retire. The tool calculates your “years to grow” automatically.
- Your Investments:Â Add your initial investment, monthly contributions, expected annual market returns (like the S&P 500 average), and expected inflation.
- Extra Contributions:Â Got a yearly bonus? Expecting an inheritance? Use the periodic or one-time lump sum fields to supercharge your compound interest.
Once you hit “Calculate”, our smart algorithm will not only show you your projected Net Worth, but our Smart Insight engine will tell you exactly how much you need to save per month to hit your goal on the dot.
Why Do You Need to Adjust for Inflation?
One of the biggest mistakes future retirees make is ignoring inflation. If your FIRE number is $1,000,000 today, that same $1,000,000 will buy significantly less in 20 or 30 years.
Our calculator automatically separates your Nominal Future Value (the big, illusionary number) from your Nest Egg in Today’s Dollars (your true purchasing power). All Safe Withdrawal calculations in this tool are strictly based on Today’s Dollars, so you don’t end up broke in your 80s because bread suddenly costs $10 a loaf.
What is the 4% Safe Withdrawal Rate (SWR)?
The Safe Withdrawal Rate (SWR) is a concept born from the famous Trinity Study. It suggests that if you invest your money in a balanced portfolio of stocks and bonds, you can safely withdraw 4% of your total portfolio value in your first year of retirement (and adjust for inflation every year after) without running out of money for at least 30 years.
To find your absolute FIRE Number using the 4% rule, you simply multiply your annual expenses by 25. For example, if you need $40,000 a year to live comfortably, your FIRE target is $1,000,000 ($40,000 x 25). If you want to be more conservative, you can change the SWR to 3.5% or 3% in our calculator above.
